The soft palate, or velum, is like an amazing 'invisible friend’. This structure includes five muscles that help hugely with resonance, intensity and range but…..it’s really hard to feel! Learning more about the velum and training it with Estill Voice Training (EVT) can transform your singing and speaking; this is the only way to beat a nasal singing or speaking voice.

Soft palate control will help you:

  • beat nasality in singing and speaking
  • sing more easily at the top of your range
  • project your voice without strain

The session includes in-depth information, practical group exercises, some individual coaching and advice on application in artistry and teaching. Come along, learn some incredibly valuable skills and get to know that acrobatic structure at the back of your throat!

This course is aimed at anyone who wants to learn more about how the voice works, singers of all genres and all speakers (e.g. actors, teachers, vicars, etc.), voice teachers, choral directors and speech and language therapists.

By the end of the workshop, participants will have:

  • had an anatomical overview of tongue, larynx and velum
  • explored high, mid- and low velum positions
  • begun conscious training of the velum
  • discovered the acoustic effects of different velum positions
  • sung and spoken with different velum positions

Cost

£45 (Early bird: £35 by 7 November 2020)
