Learn about the relationship between body, breath and voice in this playful, interactive workshop.

We will start with floor-work to release tension in the body before exploring good postural alignment and learning about Estill Head and Neck- and Torso anchoring. These are powerful tools for voicing whenever the demands lie beyond your normal speaking range, as in very loud or very soft dynamics, opera, sob or belt for example.

The session includes in depth information, practical group exercises and some individual coaching. You will need a towel for the floor-work segment which involves lying down on your back for approximately 10 minutes.

This course is aimed at anyone who wants to learn more about how the voice works, singers of all genres and all speakers (e.g. actors, teachers, vicars, etc.), voice teachers and speech and language therapists.

By the end of the workshop, participants will have:

  • released tension in the body with the semi supine position
  • reviewed good postural alignment
  • explored the relationship between breath and voice
  • learned about deep abdominal release for singing and speaking
  • reviewed false vocal fold control
  • had an anatomical overview of head, neck and torso
  • explored head and neck anchoring
  • explored torso anchoring
  • applied anchoring to singing and speaking
