Mixing twang with any voice quality will add forward placement and tremendous carrying power at no extra cost for your true vocal folds. You can be loud without working very hard at all.

AES stands for Ary Epiglottic Sphincter. In this session Stefan will take you to the AES gym and teach you to twang safely. It is a skill that will instantly transform your singing or speaking. Twang is used in opera, belting, folk singing, country & western, bluegrass, pop/rock and also in the spoken voice. Estill Voice Training (EVT) offers an excellent way to hone this skill without risk to your vocal health.

By the end of the workshop, participants will have:

  • had an anatomical overview of larynx, tongue and head/neck
  • reviewed false vocal fold control
  • reviewed velum control
  • explored wide and narrow AES positions
  • begun conscious training of the AES
  • discovered the acoustic effects of twang
  • sung and spoken with wide and narrow AES
  • become aware of habits in singing and speaking
