What is the Estill Voice Model?

The Estill Model is an evidence-based system of voice training that develops a practical understanding of vocal physiology that directly connects to a predictable, narrow range of acoustics results.

Through simple exercises, students gain control over the structures that control voice production (Compulsory Figures) then learn how to combine them to control resonance (Voice Qualities).

As a result of her investigations and research, Jo Estill realised that voice training is actually a study of three separate disciplines:

CRAFT – ARTISTRY – METAPHYSICS or PERFORMANCE ‘MAGIC’

‘Craft’ is the development of technical understanding, how the voice works from a factual, physiological standpoint.

‘Artistry’ is the study of characterisation; how do we use the skills developed in learning Craft to tell the story in the song or speech.

‘Metaphysics’ is about getting into “the zone” and how to deal with performance anxiety, to get the ego out of the way.

During the Masterclass Kaeylea and Ross will work with participants on a particular song or speech demonstrating practical use of the Model. There will be 5 places to perform available in the masterclass; sign up in advance and please bring a “problem”.
