Practical information to enhance playing and improve vocal health

It is often said that flute players can improve their playing by learning about singing, but what does that mean? What are the similarities between singing and playing the flute and what are the differences?

How can learning more about the voice enhance your flute playing and help your vocal health?

In flute playing, we are focused on things that we can see and feel easily like the lips and fingers, but what happens in the larynx and the vocal tract is also very important for your sound.

This fun, interactive workshop aims to begin to demystify the voice for flute players in the context of Estill Voice Training (EVT).

EVT offers voice users solutions to realise their full vocal potential. It’s a scientific approach with emphasis on training structures of the voice in isolation for maximum artistic freedom.

Although EVT's primary focus is singers and speakers, many of its concepts and several of its structures are also useful for flute players.

Stefan Holmström has created and developed this innovative workshop from his unique perspective as a classical flute player, opera singer and Estill Master Trainer.

The information presented in this session complements traditional teaching of the flute by empowering flute players with practical knowledge of the voice. It is a safe space for exploration with opportunities for some individual coaching* (but there's no pressure to participate!).

What you'll learn

  • How your voice works with a brief overview of the Estill Model, including vocal anatomy, physiology and acoustics
