Belting is heard in many genres, especially musical theatre, gospel, rock and pop. It is a fun, safe and economical way to make a very loud, exciting sound for those heightened emotional moments in a song.

Belting for Beginners is the first session of a two-part short course in belting. In this session you will learn the set-up for belting from scratch using Estill Voice Training. We will also listen to a wide range of examples so that you can start to recognise the belting voice quality in other singers.

By the end of the workshop, participants will have:

  • had an anatomical overview of the larynx
  • explored cricoid cartilage control
  • reviewed false vocal fold retraction and anchoring
  • explored how to set up Estill belt quality safely
  • learned to recognise the sound of belting in other singers

The workshop is delivered in English with optional Czech interpretation. The second session of this two-part short course is called Next Steps in Belting, which will take place on Saturday 4 December 2021.
