This course is for anyone who would like to improve their singing or speaking voice—singers, actors, vocal coaches, drama instructors, Speech-Language Pathologists and other vocal health professionals. Level 1: Figures for Voice™ teaches the tools of the craft to add strength, clarity and stamina to your voice! Participants will use EVT’s innovative Figures for Voice™ to learn control of the vocal structures that influence voice quality. Each Figure employs exercises that will give you new vocal options for all styles speaking and singing. Level 2 combines the Figures from Level 1 to produce six voice qualities: Speech, Falsetto, Sob, Twang, Opera, and Belting. Figure Combinations for Six Voice Qualities™ offers a clear understanding of the voice’s limitless possibilities, along with how to keep it vibrant and healthy. Throughout the day, the new voice skills are practiced in small group sessions. There will also be ample time for questions, discussion, and work on individual repertoire or case studies.

❖ Objectifs
• découvrir l’appareil vocal et ses 13 parties
(anatomie, fonctionnement et rôle dans la phonation)
• dissocier le travail de chaque partie indépendamment des autres
• acquérir une méthode de travail, qui permet de s’entrainer de manière
précise, efficace et sans se faire mal.
• maitriser différentes qualités vocales Estill (speech, falsetto, twang, sob,
opéra, belting).
• pouvoir modifier son instrument vocal afin de produire des sons
correspondants à ses besoins sans se baser sur des jugements esthétiques
mais sur des choix artistiques.
• comprendre pourquoi on se fait mal, quelles sont nos habitudes
musculaires et comment trouver un autre model de fonctionnement pour
aller vers une voix en bonne santé .
• gagner en puissance, en souplesse, en stabilité, en étendue vocale, grâce
à une connaissance précise de l’instrument et de son fonctionnement et
à une série d’exercices qui permettent de s’entrainer.
• pouvoir choisir son répertoire, son style, son interprétation en fonction de
nos envies et non pas de nos limites ou habitudes vocales.
❖ Contenu 1er niveau
• Présentation de Jo Estill et des principes de base de son modèle de
fonctionnement vocal.
• présentation des 13 parties de l'appareil vocal et du rôle de chacune.
• entrainement à travers ce que Jo Estill appelle « les Figures pour le contrôle
de la voix ».
• mise en application de ces nouveaux outils en masterclass à la fin de
chaque journée du stage.
❖ Contenu 2ème niveau
• Présentation des Combinaisons des Figures pour la production de 6
qualités vocales définies par Jo Estill.
• mise en application de ces nouveaux outils en master class à la fin de
chaque journée du stage.

❖ Déroulement du stage
Le stage commence par la présentation des Figures définies par Jo Estill. Elles sont abordées une à une, d'un point de vue théorique et pratique sous la forme entre autres d'exercices collectifs de ressenti corporel en vue d'acquérir la maitrise du fonctionnement de chaque partie de l'appareil vocal de manière autonome.
Les journées alternent entre cours théoriques et pratiques. Ils se soldent en fin d'après-midi par des questions ouvertes où les participants peuvent revenir sur des points précis de la formation et mettre en application les enseignements sur des chansons ou des textes, propres à chacun et régler différents types de difficultés.

• présentation orale de la méthode, à l’aide de documents visuels, vidéos,
audio et maquettes;
• expérimentation collective des différentes catégories de sons listés par Jo
Estill ;
• exercices collectifs de ressenti corporel;
• analyse de la voix avec un spectrogramme (Estill Voiceprint Plus).

Si les conditions sanitaires ne nous autorisaient pas à tenir ce stage en présentiel, nous le ferions en visio-conférence par ZOOM. Nous avons déjà tenu plusieurs stages Estill par ce moyen, et la qualité de l’enseignement, bien que différente, n’est nullement impactée, et présente même certains avantages.
Dans ce cas de figure, nous modifierions les dates pour vous permettre de souffler et d’absorber le contenu de la partie « Estill 1 », avant de reprendre la deuxième partie « Estill 2 ». Les nouvelles dates seraient comme suit :

- Discover the vocal apparatus and its 13 parts (anatomy, function and role in phonation)
- Dissociate the work of each part independently of the others
- Acquire a method for working on your voice that will let you train in a precise, efficient and safe way without hurting yourself.
- Learn and master different Estill vocal qualities: (speech, falsetto, twang, sob, opera, belting)
- Be able to modify your vocal instrument to produce sounds that fit your vocal needs without basing your choices on aesthetical norms but rather on artistic choice.
- Understand why we can sometimes hurt our voice, what are our muscular habits and how to find another way of using our voice to improve our voice's health.
- Increase the power, flexibility and stability, range of your voice thanks to precise knowledge of the instrument and how it functions and a series of exercises to use for training.
- Be able to choose your repertoire, style, interpretation based on your artistic choices and not on your vocal limitations or habits.
❖ Content of Level 1
- Presentation of Jo Estill and the basic principles of her model of vocal function ;
- Presentation of the 13 parts of the vocal apparatus and their roles
- Vocal training in what Jo Estill calls the "Vocal Figures"
- Practice in applying these new tools in Masterclass sessions at the end of each day of the workshop.

- Presentation of the combinations of the basic figures to produce the 6 Vocal qualities defined by Jo Estill.
- Practice in applying these new tools in masterclass sessions at the end of each day of the workshop.
❖ Course description
The course begins with the presentation of the Figures defined by Jo Estill. They are approached one by one, from a theoretical and practical point of view, in the form of collective exercises of corporal feeling in order to acquire the mastery of the functioning of each part of the vocal apparatus in an autonomous way.
The days alternate between theoretical and practical courses. They end at the end of the afternoon with open-ended questions where participants can come back to specific points of the training and apply the lessons to songs or texts, specific to each one and deal with different types of difficulties.

- oral presentation of the method, with the help of visual documents, videos, audio and models;
- collective experimentation of the different categories of sounds listed by Jo Estill ;
- group exercises of body feeling;
- voice analysis with a spectrogram (Estill Voiceprint Plus).
❖ Teaching materials
Visual documents, spectrograms, diagrams, photos, videos, audio and video, and
larynx models.
Methods of training evaluation
- Collective review session;
- Evaluation form to be completed by the participants at the end of the training course, and given to Courant d'Art ;
- Delivery of a certificate at the end of the training course
IMPORTANT INFO: COVID
If the sanitary conditions stopped us from holding this course in person, we would do it by videoconference using ZOOM. We have already held several Estill courses by this means, and the quality of the teaching, although different, is in no way impacted, and even has certain advantages.
In this case, we would modify the dates to allow you to relax and absorb the content of the "Estill 1" part, before resuming the second part "Estill 2". The new dates would be as follows:

ESTILL 2 DATES : 1, 2 MAY
The daily schedule would remain unchanged. The rate we would offer you in this eventuality would be without charge:

(Fee for those who already have the Exercise Books : 500€)
You would of course be refunded the difference between the two fees.
