Have you ever experienced scratching or an urge to cough when you sing or speak?

Do you feel strain higher in your range?

In this two hour workshop you will learn how to control your false vocal folds (FVF). Estill Voice Training offers a unique way to train the FVF in isolation so that you can apply this skill to singing or speaking in any genre. It is a fantastic tool for reducing strain (constriction) and promoting clear tone.

FVF control is a cornerstone for safe voicing in any style and will help you steer clear of trauma and vocal problems. Conscious control of the FVF will also help if you wish to use a level of constriction as part of your artistry.

The session is aimed at anyone who wants to learn more about how the voice works, singers of all genres and all speakers (e.g. actors, teachers, vicars, etc.), voice teachers, choral directors and speech and language therapists.

By the end of the workshop, participants will have:

  • had an anatomical overview of the larynx
  • explored and begun training the FVF
  • started work on the Estill figure for False Vocal Fold control
  • experienced how effortful voicing can cause scratching and understood what to do about it
  • applied FVF control in singing and speaking
