Level One: Figures for Voice Control

Participants will be given a practical grounding in vocal technique, vocal anatomy and physiology, that will allow them to approach any vocal endeavour with confidence and skill. The Estill Voice Model teaches differentiated voluntary control of specific parts of the vocal mechanism and an understanding of vocal function.

Level Two: Figure Combinations for Six Voice Qualities

Participants wil develop mastery of vocal qualities including Speech, Twang (nasal and clear), Falsetto, Opera and Belting. Applications to the singing and speaking voice will be practised. Hone your troubleshooting skills.

Leading Australian Ear-Nose-Throat Specialist, John Tomich will co-present the Endoscopy Day. Following an introductory talk on Videolaryngoscopic Biofeedback, participants will be given the unique opportunity to be endoscoped and literally see their voice (i.e. larynx) in action whilst performing various vocal tasks, Figures and Voice Qualities.

This Full Estill Course is open to anyone interested in learning more about how the voice works and how to gain control of the structures which determine vocal quality. This includes speakers, singers, teachers and performers of all styles. Level One will introduce the figures – exercises to control of the structures of the vocal tract – and Level Two will explore different vocal qualities used in classical & contemporary singing, music theatre and also in the spoken voice.

The Complete Estill Course
Estill Voice Training is craft for singers, like fingering for the pianist.

Practice independent voice motor control. Understand advanced anatomy and how the voice physically and acoustically functions. Control the components that change voice quality through kinesthetic perception and muscle training.

Emphasis on aesthetic freedom and vocal safety across all styles and genres – from rock to opera, jazz to belting!

Level One – Figures for Voice Control
In Level One, participants will accomplish an advanced understanding of vocal anatomy and the physiology of the larynx. The students will be able to increase their kinesthetic perception and maximize their control over their “reed”-instrument. The scientifically researched figures or muscle training exercises allow the voice user to individually monitor, control and adjust all researched muscular structures involved in sound production and therefore safely produce any style or genre specific voice quality.
Each participant will receive individual feedback and monitoring to ensure that all concepts are understood and applied correctly. From the start, the emphasis will be on singing and speaking, both individually and as a group to reinforce technical ideas and ensure correct training of muscle memory.

Level Two – Figure Combinations for Six Voice Qualities
During Level Two, participants will analyze and develop mastery of 6 archetype vocal qualities including Speech, Falsetto, Twang (nasal and oral), Sob, Opera and Belting. Additionally, contemporary, classical, and music theatre voice qualities will be studied in order to create a better understanding of how the work can be applied on stage, in the studio and in rehearsals. The client will be supplied with a toolbox of muscular skills, anatomically correct vocabulary and the confidence that anyone can train the muscles of their voice in order to achieve any aesthetic goal.
Finally, students will be able to participate in a master class in order to apply the tools learnt in a group/performance environment. Singers may present pieces of their own choosing, ideally with problems to be solved. There is no pre-requisite nor audition for this course.

This course is open to anyone who has already taken the Estill Level One course -- singers, voice teachers, actors, clinical voice professionals, etc. The course begins with an overview of the development of the Estill Voice Model and an overview of this course. We will then work through 6 voice qualities: speech, falsetto, sob, twang, belting and opera - by practicing individually and integrating them into singing and different genres of music. The days will alternate between lecture presentations, video research, audio examples, practice sessions and open sessions.

This course is intended for teachers and students of singing and actors. The Level One course teaches the tools to control vocal instrument. Students will learn EVT’s Figures to use better vocal structures are useful to sing every musical genre or to play every character. The Level Two course teaches how EVT’s Figures can be used to mix the "recipes" for 6 voice qualities: Speech, Falsetto, Sob, Twang, Opera, and Belting.

This course of 20 two hour sessions in the Estill Voice Model for begins with workshops in anatomy, physiology and acoustics and continues by covering Jo Estill’s Compulsory figures for Vocal Control. On this occasion, it is aimed particularly at voiceover and dubbing professionals working mainly in the studio. Students will have the opportunity to put each of the figures into practice and to apply the model to their particular work environment. There will also be a chance to practise the model in group singing using harmonic music and chants.

Este curso de 20 sesiones de dos horas en el modelo Estill empieza con talleres en anatomía, fisiología y acústica y sigue con la presentación de las Figuras Obligatorias de Control de la Voz descritas por Jo Estill. Se dirige especialmente a esos profesionales de la voz que van a trabajar en doblaje. Los asistentes tendrán la oportunidad de practicar las figuras y aplicarlas a su ámbito profesional particular. Habrá además la posibilidad de practicar las figuras en grupo con canto en harmonÍa.

This course is presented by Helga Westmark & Dorte Hyldstrup, who were two of the first Certified Course Instructors in Europe – so-called Vanguards.
