While application of the Estill Model to singing and singing teaching is well established, there is still confusion among many voice teachers as to how the Model is relevant to the teaching and training of actors. The Estill Model provides direct solutions to many of the issues that are unique to the speaking voice and the craft of acting, both students and professionals. As many voice teachers find themselves working in different genres and media, including theatre and film, the Estill Model gives immediate, practical solutions to moving from one genre to another. This day will offer practical exercises, explanations and support in working with students and professionals in stage, film and theatre.

Anne-Marie has pioneered the use of the Estill Model in the teaching of speaking here in the UK, especially in the training of actors and has innovated many approaches in adapting the Model to the spoken voice.

The day will include:

• Brief overview of the Estill Model
• Alternative definitions of ‘support’
• Easy projection and theatre voice
• Teaching of accents
• Differences in teaching voice for stage versus film
• Short masterclass

Suitable For: Those new to the Model, anyone who working with the voice; singing teachers,
professional singers, students and amateurs; voice, speech & drama teachers; actors. Suitable for all styles of performance

Standard Rate: £90 (Early Bird fee of £65 applies if paid and booked before 01/01/11)
Student Rate: £40 if nominated by teacher

Figures for Voice Control & Figure Combinations for Six Voice Qualities

The Complete Estill Course
Estill Training is craft for singers, like fingering for the pianist.

Practice independent voice motor control. Understand advanced anatomy and how the voice physically and acoustically functions. Control the components that change voice quality through kinesthetic perception and muscle training.

Emphasis on aesthetic freedom and vocal safety across all styles and genres – from rock to opera, jazz to belting!

Level 1 – Compulsory Figures
In Level One, participants will accomplish an advanced understanding of vocal anatomy and the physiology of the larynx. The students will be able to increase their kinesthetic perception and maximize their control over their “reed”-instrument. The scientifically researched figures or muscle training exercises allow the voice user to individually monitor, control and adjust all researched muscular structures involved in sound production and therefore safely produce any style or genre specific voice quality.
Each participant will receive individual feedback and monitoring to ensure that all concepts are understood and applied correctly. From the start, the emphasis will be on singing and speaking, both individually and as a group to reinforce technical ideas and ensure correct training of muscle memory.

Level 2 – Figure Combinations
During Level Two, participants will analyze and develop mastery of 6 archetype vocal qualities including Speech, Falsetto, Twang (nasal and oral), Sob, Opera and Belting. Additionally, contemporary, classical, and music theatre voice qualities will be studied in order to create a better understanding of how the work can be applied on stage, in the studio and in rehearsals. The client will be supplied with a toolbox of muscular skills, anatomically correct vocabulary and the confidence that anyone can train the muscles of their voice in order to achieve any aesthetic goal.
Finally, students will be able to participate in a master class in order to apply the tools learnt in a group/performance environment. Singers may present pieces of their own choosing, ideally with problems to be solved. There is no pre-requisite nor audition for this course.

This one-day Estill Certification workshop will serve as the jumping off point for students interested in persuing the Estill CMT (Certified Master Teacher). The goal of the workshop is to help potential candidates who have taken the ESTILL NYC Courses in May, June and July (or any other official Estill Level I and II Courses in the U.S. or abroad--course certificates will be required as proof of attendance) and feel ready to take the next steps toward certification come to clarity regarding the process ahead. The instructors will explain the expectations and requirements for CMT Certification, as well as provide individual coaching time during which each viable candidate will meet with the instructors to devise a personalized 9 month course of study that will (if all requirements are met) culminate in the passing of the CMT written and VoicePrint exams. The hope is that if and when both of these exams have been passed, the candidate will then assist and be observed teaching during the next ESTILL NYC Courses in Spring/Summer 2013. If you have any questions about wether or not it would appropriate for you to attend this workshop please email Robert.
