The teaching of ‘support’ is still an area fraught with misunderstanding and misinformation. The key to effective teaching of this crucial area of vocal technique is clear understanding of the physiological basis for the need to ‘support’, what is being supported and the most efficient ways to achieve this. Building on information given on earlier courses, we will identify which muscles are needed to support the voice by clarifying the relationship between breath and vocalisation. By using ultrasound techniques, we will also identify those muscles which undermine vocal support and those which are essential to sustained, vigorous voice use, in speaking or singing. Using real time ultrasound, we will demonstrate which muscles tend to be overactive, overwhelming those which are necessary to efficient vocal function. The day will conclude with a short master class, demonstrating the application of the day’s principles in the teaching studio. Level II works with six voice qualities and explores their use in Folk Music, Jazz, Pop, Early Music, Musical Theater Opera, country music, gospel, Rhythm & Blues , Ethnic and Choral singing. Understanding how the figures effect your sound and power also allows you greater breadth of dynamic expression, and character development. The workshop involves Powerpoint presentations, endoscopic videos, anatomical models and slides. There are application activities and small group practices. There is a chance for individual attention in a master class format at the end of the instruction day. The workbooks provide a complete summary of the Estill Vocal Training model. Morgens und nachmittags unterrichte ich in deutscher Sprache anhand von EVT-‐Materialien und mit Hilfe von Demonstrationen, gemeinsamen Übungen, Beispielen und Videopräsentationen. Die Erklärung des Systems findet in Abschnitten statt und wechselt sich mehrmals täglich mit Praxis-‐Sitzungen in der Gruppe ab; darin werden alle Figuren und Fähigkeiten, wenn erforderlich, unter individueller Begleitung angelernt. Am Tagesende findet eine offene Sitzung statt (jeweils von 17.30-‐19.00 Uhr), hier werden die erlernten Fähigkeiten und Figuren in Musik und Sprache angewendet. Dabei können die Teilnehmer beobachten, wie die Übungen eingesetzt werden können, um vokale Probleme zu lösen. Level Two (2 Tage) In Level 2 versuchen die Teilnehmer, die gelernten Figuren aus “Level One” zu kombinieren, um auf diese Weise verschiedene Basis-‐Klang-‐Qualitäten zu erreichen, wie zum Beispiel Belting oder Oper. Mittels der von Jo Estrill entwickelten Methode lernen wir, Klänge zu hören, zu erkennen, zu fühlen und wiederzugeben. Die Teilnehmer lernen, aus welchen Figuren eine Opern-‐Stimmqualität zusammengestellt ist, sie zu beherrschen und zu produzieren, auch wenn Sie noch nie eine Oper gesungen haben. Dabei wundern sich die meisten, wie gut Ihr Stimmpotential ist, egal ob es um die Bereiche Oper, Belting oder andere geht.
