This one-day Estill Certification workshop will serve as the jumping off point for students interested in persuing the Estill CMT (Certified Master Teacher). The goal of the workshop is to help potential candidates who have taken the ESTILL NYC Courses in May, June and July (or any other official Estill Level I and II Courses in the U.S. or abroad--course certificates will be required as proof of attendance) and feel ready to take the next steps toward certification come to clarity regarding the process ahead. The instructors will explain the expectations and requirements for CMT Certification, as well as provide individual coaching time during which each viable candidate will meet with the instructors to devise a personalized 9 month course of study that will (if all requirements are met) culminate in the passing of the CMT written and VoicePrint exams. The hope is that if and when both of these exams have been passed, the candidate will then assist and be observed teaching during the next ESTILL NYC Courses in Spring/Summer 2013. If you have any questions about wether or not it would appropriate for you to attend this workshop please email Robert. |

"Everyone has a beautiful voice. You just have to know how to use it," says singer & scientist Jo Estill. Her system, Estill Voice Training™ (EVT), simplifies the learning process by breaking the voice down into its working parts – the actual structures that make the voice work. Using Estill’s Figures for Voice™, students learn to control each structure independently and then combine the structures to create different voice qualities. This course is available for anyone who would like to improve their singing or speaking voice – vocal instructors, drama instructors, Speech-Language Pathologists and other vocal health professionals. The skills developed in Level One will add strength, clarity and stamina to your voice! Throughout the course, participants will apply their new skills to all styles of speaking and singing in small group practice sessions. Participants will learn the same Estill Voice Training tools that are used daily on stages from the Met to Broadway to Nashville to Madison Square Garden! |

Level One: Compulsory Figures for Voice™ teaches the tools of the craft. This course is appropriate for singers, actors, speech language pathologists, and voice teachers. Singers and speakers will learn how to add strength, clarity, range, and stamina to the voice. Teachers and speech pathologists will gain a host of new tools to use in solving common vocal problems and perhaps even a trick or two for the unusual vocal complaint. EVT is applicable to ALL styles of speaking and singing. Participants will use EVT’s innovative training Figures™ to control vocal structures that maximize versatility in speech and song. The Level One course offers a clear understanding of the voice’s limitless possibilities, along with how to keep it vibrant and healthy. Participants will apply their new skills in small group practice sessions. There will also be ample opportunity for questions, discussion, and open coaching sessions. Level Two: Figure Combinations for Six Voice Qualities guides participants to develop mastery of six archetype voice qualities – Speech, Falsetto, Sob, Twang (oral and nasal), Opera, and Belting. These qualities can be brought to musical theatre, contemporary, and classical music literature, contemporary, “heightened,” and character speech for actors, and incorporated effectively into any form of oral communication in the workplace (speeches, lectures, interviews, etc.) In each case, participants will learn to trouble shoot and solve problems. Participants will receive individual feedback and monitoring to ensure all concepts are understood and applied correctly in order to achieve any aesthetic goal. Master classes will be held on the last two days to provide volunteer participants an opportunity to apply what they've learned to a song, monologue, poem, or speech. This course is being taught by Kerrie Obert and Steven Chicurel, both of whom are Estill Certified Course Instructors with Testing Privileges and Service Distinction. Ms. Obert is a clinical voice pathologist at The Ohio State University in the Dept of Otolaryngology.
