This course is intended for teachers and students of singing and actors.

The Level One course teaches the tools to control vocal instrument. Students will learn EVT’s Figures to use better vocal structures are useful to sing every musical genre or to play every character.

Level 1

Participants will be given a practical grounding in vocal technique and vocal anatomy and physiology that will allow them to approach any vocal endeavour with confidence and skill. The Estill Model teaches voluntary differentiated control of specific parts of the vocal mechanism and an understanding of vocal function.

Each participant will receive individual feedback and monitoring to ensure that all concepts are understood and applied correctly.

The emphasis from the start will be on singing and speaking individually and as a group to reinforce technical ideas. Participants will learn techniques that will set them up for a career of safe voice work.

Level 2

Participants will develop mastery of vocal qualities including Speech, Twang (nasal and clear), Falsetto, Opera and Belting. Applications to the singing voice will be practised. Hone your trouble shooting skills.

Each participant will receive individual feedback and monitoring to ensure that all concepts are understood and applied correctly. The emphasis from the start will be on voicing individually andas a group to reinforce technical ideas.

Classical, Contemporary and Music Theatre singing styles will be studied. Tuition will be via masterclasses, small group lessons and ensemble.

While application of the Estill Voice Model to singing and singing teaching is well established, there is still confusion among many voice teachers as to how the Model is relevant to the teaching and training of actors. The Estill Model provides direct solutions to many of the issues that are unique to the speaking voice and the craft of acting, both students and professionals. As many voice teachers find themselves working in different genres and media, including theatre and film, the Estill Model gives immediate, practical solutions to moving from one genre to another. This day will offer practical exercises, explanations and support in working with students and professionals in stage , film and theatre.

Anne-Marie has pioneered the use of the Estill Model in the teaching of speaking here in the UK and has innovated many exercises in adapting the Model to spoken voice.

This course is open to anyone interested in learning more about the voice   singers, speakers, teachers, therapists, choral conductors. Participants will be introduced to the concepts and exercises of Estill Voice Training (also known as Estill Voicecraft), an innovative, informative and empowering approach that creates a pathway to exciting vocal discoveries. Free from aesthetic bias, the Figures (exercises) of Level One reveal the basic mechanics of how the voice works. Each Figure creates a specific vocal sound effect, adds a particular "ingredient" to our vocal "recipe".

In Level One, we explore the range of effects available and acquire valuable insights regarding vocal health, stamina and power. Each day will include interactive lectures as well as opportunities for group and individual practice. Open Coaching sessions offer the chance to see how Figures can be used to break down the barriers standing between you and your vocal goals.

By learning three of the Estill Voice Training figures or exercises, you can sing more powerfully without strain on your vocal folds. You will apply the information that you learned through the diagrams , videos & exercises to your song or reading at the end of the session. Class size is limited to ensure individual attention. This course is open to anyone who has already taken the Estill Level One course – singers, voice teachers, actors, clinical voice professionals, etc. The course begins with an overview of the development of the Estill Voice Model and an overview of this course. We will then work through all the voice qualities: speech, falsetto, sob, twang, belting and opera – by practicing individually and integrating them into singing and different genres of music. The days will alternate between lecture presentations, video research, audio examples, practice sessions and open sessions.

This cause is taught in English. German translation and a german assistant are available during course.

After the tremendous success of the Level 1 & 2 courses in Jan 09 & 10, the course will once again be hosted by Waikato University in association with the New Zealand Opera School.

The course will be presented by Paul Farrington who has been the International Guest Tutor at the New Zealand Opera School since 2005, and is one of the most experienced and multi faceted presenters of Jo Estills work. Paul is currently Vocal Technique coach to the Young Artist Programme at the ROH Covent Garden, Goteborgs Operan Sweden, and also coach and advisor to some of the worlds foremost Opera and concert artists. He also coaches West End Musical and Contmeporary performers in the UK, Spain, Germany, Gran Canaria ,Finland, Norway, Denmark, and Sweden, and for 17 years was also Clinical Vocal Consultant to the Universtiy Hospital Birmingham UK.
