"Everyone has a beautiful voice. You just have to know how to use it," says singer & scientist Jo Estill. Her system, Estill Voice Training™ (EVT), simplifies the learning process by breaking the voice down into its working parts – the actual structures that make the voice work. Using Estill’s Figures for Voice™, students learn to control each structure independently and then combine the structures to create different voice qualities. This course is available for anyone who would like to improve their singing or speaking voice – vocal instructors, drama instructors, Speech-Language Pathologists and other vocal health professionals. The skills developed in Level One will add strength, clarity and stamina to your voice! Throughout the course, participants will apply their new skills to all styles of speaking and singing in small group practice sessions. Participants will learn the same Estill Voice Training tools that are used daily on stages from the Met to Broadway to Nashville to Madison Square Garden!

This course is intended for teachers and students of singing and actors.

The Level One course teaches the tools to control vocal instrument. Students will learn EVT’s Figures to use better vocal structures are useful to sing every musical genre or to play every character.

This course is presented by Helga Westmark & Dorte Hyldstrup, who were two of the first Certified Course Instructors in Europe – so-called Vanguards. Description:

This course is open to anyone with an interest in learning about the voice, e.g. singers, voiceteachers, actors, choirleaders, clinical voice professionals etc. The course begins with an introduction to the Estill Voice Model with Compulsory Figures for Voice, and an overview of this course. We will work us through all the basic Figures in Level One and end up with a short overview of the Six Voice Qualities of Level Two. We will practise together and individually in small groups, integrating new skills into singing and applying them to different genres of music. The days will alternate between classroom presentations, practice sessions in small groups and open sessions.

Please note that if you would like to take both the Level One and Two Courses running at the Sibelius Academy together, attending June 14-18, you will pay only 705 euro (a discount of 65 euro).

This course is open only to those who have already taken a Level One course.

The Level Two course teaches how EVT’s Figures can be used to mix the "recipes" for 6 voice qualities: Speech, Falsetto, Sob, Twang, Opera, and Belting.

El método pretende despejar el misterio existente en el entrenamiento vocal.

El trabajo alterna sesiones de teoría con la practica de las figuras en grupos pequeños, Hay la oportunidad de aplicar el trabajo a canciones y textos en sesiones tipo Master Class. El Sábado tarde habrá una presentación a cargo de Queralt Botey en como aplicar las Figuras de Estill a la rehabilitación vocal.

The Complete Estill Course

This complete course in Estill Voice Training is open to voice teachers, singers and speakers as well as singer/songwriters, music producers, dancers and all other voice users. Estill is craft for singers, like fingering for the pianist, the gym for athletes, ballet for dancers or grammar for language.

Learn basic anatomy, how the voice physically functions and how to control the components that change voice quality through kinesthetic perception and muscle training. Emphasis on aesthetic freedom and vocal safety across all styles and genres – from rock to opera, jazz to belting!

Level 1

In Level One, participants will accomplish a basic understanding of vocal anatomy and the physiology of the larynx. The students will be able to increase their kinesthetic perception and maximize their control over their “reed”-instrument. The scientifically researched figures or muscle training exercises allow the voice user to individually monitor, control and adjust all researched muscular structures involved in sound production and therefore safely produce any style or genre specific voice quality.

Each participant will receive individual feedback and monitoring to ensure that all concepts are understood and applied correctly. From the start, the emphasis will be on singing and speaking, both individually and as a group to reinforce technical ideas and ensure correct training of muscle memory.

Level 2

During Level Two, participants will develop mastery of 6 archetype vocal qualities including Speech, Falsetto, Twang (nasal and oral), Sob, Opera and Belting. Additionally, contemporary, classical, and music theatre voice qualities will be studied in order to create a better understanding of how the work can be applied on stage, in the studio and in rehearsals. The client will be supplied with a toolbox of muscular skills, anatomically correct vocabulary and the confidence that anyone can train the muscles of their voice in order to achieve any aesthetic goal.

Finally, students will be able to participate in a master class in order to apply the tools learnt in a group/performance environment. Singers may present pieces of their own choosing, ideally with problems to be solved. There is no pre-requisite nor audition for this course.

The Complete 5 Day Course in the Estill Voice Model presented by the UK’s most experienced team of Estill experts. This five day course will comprise Level 1 (12 Compulsory Figures) and Level 2 (6 Voice Qualities) and will also include a short introduction to anatomy & physiology and a vocal health session. The daily schedule will consist of lecture presentations, video research, audio & video examples, as well as teaching and training tips. Participants will divide into small practice groups throughout the day to receive coaching in the Compulsory Figures & Voice Qualities. There will also be an Open Session in the evening which provides participants with an opportunity to sing a song or do a speech and receive expert coaching from one of the Vanguard CCIs.
