This course is open only to those who have already taken a Level One course. The Level Two course teaches how EVT’s Figures can be used to mix the "recipes" for 6 voice qualities: Speech, Falsetto, Sob, Twang, Opera, and Belting.

This course is intended for teachers and students of singing and actors. The Level One course teaches the tools to control vocal instrument. Students will learn EVT’s Figures to use better vocal structures are useful to sing every musical genre or to play every character.

Discussion and application to the vocal styles of the Level Two

This course is presented by Helga Westmark & Dorte Hyldstrup, who were two of the first Certified Course Instructors in Europe – so-called Vanguards. This Advanced 1 course is mostly for people who have attended Level One & Two courses in Helsinki. The course will focus on repetition and more advanced exercises of Level One & Two and analysis of problems & solutions/Pedagogical issues. We will mostly work practically and integrate figures and qualities into music and also have time to focus on individual coaching/training.
 

 This workshop is open to SINGERS, ACTORS, PERFORMERS, TEACHERS… ALL VOICE USERS. No previous Estill experience required. However you speak, however you sing, Estill Voice Training has something to offer you. We welcome all singing styles: folk, pop/rock, classical, blues, gospel, Broadway, opera, jazz, R&B… Bring it on! Our focus will be a clearer understanding of how the voice works and exploration of the artistic possibilities (aesthetically unbiased) presented by Estill Voice Training - where vocal versatility and vitality are paramount.

The workshop will conclude in an “Open Session” during which individuals can receive coaching from the workshop leaders to discover how even a few Estill Voice Training exercises and options can make a striking difference in how the voice sounds and feels. The essential second course in the Estill Model, this weekend intensive will present Level Two, 6 Voice Qualities and is both for those who have just completed Level One and those who wish to refresh and reinforce information from previous courses. The course is presented by Anne-Marie Speed, one of the most experienced teachers of the Estill Model internationally.
Level Two (6 Voice Qualities) shows how to combine the Figures from Level One (12 Compulsory Figures) to build six voice qualities, each with distinct physiological and acoustic characteristics; Speech, Falsetto, Cry/Sob, Twang, Opera and Belting. These qualities are found in many different styles of singing from pop and rock, musical theatre, classical and opera, folk and jazz. They are also found across different ethnic and cultural groups.
This weekend intensive course will present the six voice qualities, with their respective physiological definitions and with clear guidance on how to produce the qualities, where and in what genres they are used, what the requirements are to make the qualities and overcoming any problems related to producing the Voice Qualities.
While examples are sometimes easier to find in singing, this work applies just as well to the training of actors and the development of the speaking voice, as will be clearly demonstrated on the course.

Practice independent voice motor control. Understand advanced anatomy and how the voice physically and acoustically functions. Control the components that change voice quality through kinesthetic perception and muscle training.

Emphasis on aesthetic freedom and vocal safety across all styles and genres – from rock to opera, jazz to belting!

Level One – Figures for Voice Control
In Level One, participants will accomplish an advanced understanding of vocal anatomy and the physiology of the larynx. The students will be able to increase their kinesthetic perception and maximize their control over their “reed”-instrument. The scientifically researched figures or muscle training exercises allow the voice user to individually monitor, control and adjust all researched muscular structures involved in sound production and therefore safely produce any style or genre specific voice quality.
Each participant will receive individual feedback and monitoring to ensure that all concepts are understood and applied correctly. From the start, the emphasis will be on singing and speaking, both individually and as a group to reinforce technical ideas and ensure correct training of muscle memory.

Level Two – Figure Combinations for Six Voice Qualities
During Level Two, participants will analyze and develop mastery of 6 archetype vocal qualities including Speech, Falsetto, Twang (nasal and oral), Sob, Opera and Belting. Additionally, contemporary, classical, and music theatre voice qualities will be studied in order to create a better understanding of how the work can be applied on stage, in the studio and in rehearsals. The client will be supplied with a toolbox of muscular skills, anatomically correct vocabulary and the confidence that anyone can train the muscles of their voice in order to achieve any aesthetic goal.
Finally, students will be able to participate in a master class in order to apply the tools learnt in a group/performance environment. Singers may present pieces of their own choosing, ideally with problems to be solved. There is no pre-requisite nor audition for this course.

Este curso de tres días empieza con una introducción al modelo de la voz de Jo Estill y a su historia y con un taller de anatomía y fisiología. Durante los próximos tres días, se presentarán las figuras obligatorias que componen el sistema. Los asistentes tendrán la posibilidad de practicar en grupos pequeños con ayudantes titulados. Cada día habrá una sesión abierta donde los participantes podrán aplicar el sistema (trabajo) a su propia “performance” sea Pop, Jazz, Teatro Musical, Ópera o la voz hablada.
Habrá algún énfasis en el uso de las figuras en logopedia, aprovechando la experiencia del profesorado en patologías vocales. También existe la posibilidad de practicar las figuras del modelo en canto armónico.
